CARE is a global leader within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. CARE was founded in 1945, when 22 American organizations came together to rush lifesaving CARE Packages® to survivors of World War II. Decades ago, CARE phased out the CARE Package to expand the breadth of their work on long-term projects in addition to emergency relief. Today CARE remains a powerful symbol of compassion and generosity to those who support CARE's vision of a world free of poverty and suffering.
As a leading non-profit organization fighting global poverty, CARE equips women with the proper resources for equal rights and opportunities to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. CARE achieves this by putting women and girls at the heart of their community-based efforts to improve basic education, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. In times of crisis, CARE delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.
In 2017, CARE worked in 93 countries reaching more than 63 million people through 950 lifesaving projects in six sectors: disaster relief, women’s empowerment, health, food security, education, and economic development.
CARE is making an impact in people’s lives every day. CARE provided more than 2 million people throughout southern Africa with vouchers for food and seed, new water and irrigation systems, rehabilitated dams, animal feed and livestock vaccinations. Not only is CARE responding to the humanitarian situation facing millions of people, but their new impact strategy is improving food security and climate change resilience for 10 million people through partners, policy implementation improvements and best programming practices. CARE will continue to make long term investments to ensure sustainable solutions to ending poverty.
A-Town Showdown is proud to choose CARE for this year’s philanthropy partner. While A-Town Showdown aims to share the love of dance and South Asian culture throughout the US, we pride ourselves in our efforts to give back to the community. A-Town Showdown hopes to raise awareness for CARE’s important mission of ending global poverty through our strong network and make their cause our cause. We welcome potential partners like yourself to not only make A-Town Showdown a reality, but to empower women everywhere by supporting our philanthropic partner CARE.
